Tyranny of the Urgent
Series The Gospel of Mark
165
What is the tyranny of the urgent? It is being tyrannized and controlled by the wrong master and the wrong priorities. When Jesus was told, "Everyone is looking for you," he replied, "Let us go somewhere else," thereby demonstrating that He was not tyrannized by the urgent, by the approval of the crowd or by the demand and priorities of other people. He had one master -- His Father. He had one agenda -- His Father's agenda. Jesus knew why He had come and what was important to do and what was not as important. Through Christ and by His grace, we can experience this same freedom. We need to understand why we are here, what our purpose really is and we need the grace to submit to God's purpose for us. Submission is 99 percent of the battle.
