Tithing or the Modern Alternatives?

The tithe is the oldest method of financial giving recorded in the Bible. It recognises the sovereignty of God over all possessions and is simple, disciplined and proportionate. The difficulty with tithes in the New Testament Church is the question of its legal requirement under the grace of the Gospel. Can it be maintained consistently from Scripture and if so how should it be practiced? Should we tithe or not. Are the alternatives to tithing viable—“Proportionate Giving,” “Faith Promise Giving” or “Seed Giving”?
