1 John 2:1-6: God's Wrath, God's Love, Our Joy

Does 1 John 2:2 actually teach that Jesus died for every soul that ever lived throughout the entire world across all of time? Or do we need to understand the immediate context and the other words John uses in this passage in order to ferret out what John is saying here?

Understanding that salvation is all of God should lead to both our comfort and to more humility on our part.

Finally, to increase in our obedience to God's commands actually leads us to greater love of God and to our highest joy. Rather than the shackles and bondage that world sees in God's commands, we experience the greatest joy we possibly could experience when we walk in obedience.
