As David turns over the kingdom to his son Solomon, he charges Solomon with handling three unfinished tasks: dealing with Joab, the sons of Barzillai, and Shemei. In the cases of Joab and Shemei, David should have dealt with these situations sooner. The task of dealing with these loose ends now falls to Solomon.
