The Fall of Man: Satan, Sin and Seduction

77

Man and woman walked fully satisfied and in perfect communion with God in the beginning (before the Fall of man into sin; Gen. 2:25). What bliss and intimate communion Adam and Eve must have enjoyed in fellowship with their Creator and Covenantal Lord! But they were tempted by Satan the serpent, the vowed vindictive enemy of God Almighty. Through Satan's temptation, they were seduced into sin, and lost their communion with God, as well as their original pure knowledge of God and themselves, and their righteousness and holiness (Ecc. 7:29; Eph. 4:24). Although God did not immediately judge man in Adam with the consequences of physical death so that He could be a recipient of the Gospel (Gen. 2:17; 3:15). Nevertheless, Adam and Eve died spiritually, and became dead in trespasses and sins as rebels against their Creator and Covenant Lord (Gen. 6:5; Eph. 2:1-3). If mankind was to have hope, only an act of God's grace and mercy could save them now.
