The 70th Week of Daniel

111

The 70th week of Daniel may be seen as the climax of the whole prophecy--i.e., that toward which all in the 69 weeks move. It is all about Messiah and what he will do not only in regard to the Jews, but also for the world of lost Gentiles as well. The verses teach that he will accomplilsh two principal things: 1) He will be cut off, i.e., be put to death on the cross of Calvary to confirm the covenant made with the fathers (or the covenant of grace); and 2) He will put an end to sacrifce and oblation by offereing himself as a sacrifice for sins and by the destruction he would bring to the corrput worship of the Jews following his death on the cross. This interpretation is contrasted with contemporary "dispensational" views of the passage, and applictation is made in regard to the attention we should pay to the wrath of Christ as well as his pity, and future hope for the unbelieving Jews.
