Mother's Day 2013 (Naomi)

INTRO: Today we remember mothers. I think it is in order to have "Mother's Day." And we are going to remember mothers by giving some thoughts to Naomi, the mother-in-law of the Ruth of the book of Ruth in the OT. No one knows exactly when the events of the book of Ruth took place. It was during the time of the Judges. You will remember that Joseph became the president of Egypt after having been sold into slavery by his brothers. Then, in a time of famine, he brought his family into Egypt. Here the Jewish people expanded and eventually came into bondage and were not allowed to leave Egypt. You will remember the 10 plagues and how Israel finally came out and Moses led them through the wilderness. Then, just before they entered the promised land Moses died and Joshua became the leader. He then led Israel into the land and when he died, the time of the Judges began.
