Missing Donkeys and the Providence of God

God gives the people just the sort of king they are looking for. This sets the stage for Israel's future disappointment and humbling, and underscores that while man looks on the outward things, God looks on the heart.
Nevertheless, Israel's disobedience does not result in their abandonment by Yahweh. They are unrepentant and idolatrous, but God continues to show mercy and compassion to them
