Would you remain unchanged if you looked into the eyes of God? Surprisingly, thousands have. This is inexcusable. In Hebrews 6:4-9 the author's burden is to encourage Christian people to persevere in their faith in view of people who actually saw God Incarnate, who were drawn up into the excitement of it all, but who were later found to be fakes. This warning is found in the context of an encouragement to hold to Christ alone in faith rather than losing confidence in Christ alone for personal holiness and final salvation and glorification. The man in the iron cage is a sombre reminder of a man who didn't; keep him in mind.
