Although I have cast this in a negative form, the truth is, the entire Scripture is the law of Christ. The inward work of the Spirit and the external law of Christ are also linked the other way about. And in this we discover the perfection of God’s design. What do I mean? Just this: the believer is free; he is not under the law of Moses; he has the Spirit. Now there are obvious risks in stressing the point.81 Liberty might degenerate into licence. But it is at this very danger-point where the perfection of God’s design stands out in all its glory. Let me explain.
