The Comfort of a Finished Work

Why did the disciples ask among themselves what Jesus was talking about and not just ask Jesus? How does this show that the disciples and therefore all of Christ's chosen ones have a desperate need for Him to do all the work of salvation? Why was it necessary for there to be a 'travail' in order to save sinners? What was absolutely necessary in order for God to be just in justifying sinners that He chose? Why do we have sorrow and what is it that Jesus promised to His own that will take that sorrow from them? Why did Christ sit down at the right hand of the Father? Did the LORD reject them for their ignorance? Why should we only ask for what will glorify His Name? What had to happen in order for God to impute Christ's righteousness to the accounts of the chosen?
