And They Were Deeply Grieved

Jesus tells his disciples for a second time that he will be killed and raised on the third day. Their response was a deep agony. They were not yet able to understand the reality, nor the implication of the resurrection. In that they were much like people of our day, who consider it a pity that Jesus died -- the great man, the prophet, the man of God-- but they don't see the death burial and resurrection as a source of hope, joy and victory.
