The Law of God is instructive for the believer, cf. Psalm 1:1

A. The Fourth Commandment as example…

  1. The Lord’s Day Sabbath is in neglect today…
  2. It is a universal continuing duty…
  3. The Lord’s Day is the first day of the week…

Questions: 1. Can I really live a life of holiness if I choose to set aside God’s Commandments? What about just one of them?
2. Can I reasonable expect the blessing of the Lord upon my life, family, work and activities if I neglect or abuse the Lord’s Day Sabbath?

II. The Manner in Which we should view the Lord’s Day…
A. As Holy…

  1. The Day belongs to Jesus Christ, Revelation 1:10
  2. The Apostles came together on the first day of the week…John 20:9, 26
  3. The Apostolic church met on the first day of the week, Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 11:26; 16:1-2.

B. As Honorable…

III. Some Directions for a Proper Use of the Lord’s Day…
A. How not to observe the day…

  1. Keep from worldly business, pleasure and conversation…
  2. There is liberty, necessity and mercy cf. Exodus 12:16
  3. Do not deceive your own souls…

B. Honor God…all the day…in all you do…

IV. Blessings to be Expected by the Proper View and Use of the Lord’s Day…
A. Do not be presumptuous…
B. We shall have the comfort of it…
C. We shall have the honor of it…
D. We shall have the profit of it…Hebrews 4:9 cf. I Corinthians 2:9
