THE PLAN OF GOD:
JEWS & GENTILES "TOGETHER FOREVER" IN THE CHURCH!
Conclusion to the Study of Paul's Epistle to the Romans
June 7, 2015
- Purpose of Paul's apostleship to the Gentiles: the obedience of faith among the Gentiles (1:1-14)
- Purpose of the Gospel: the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek (1:16-17)
- Justification by faith alone: provided to Jew and Gentile by Christ 4:1-5:20)
- Sanctification by Christ: required for both Jew and Gentile believers (6:1-7:25)
- Walking by the Spirit: required for both Jewish and Gentile believers (8:1-27)
- God's work on behalf of His people (Jew and Gentile) (8:28-39)
- What about God's Old Covenant plans for the Jews? (Chapter 9-11)
Has the Word of God failed? (9:6—NO!!!)
There are two (2) reasons why not all ethnic Jews are saved:
a. God's sovereign choice (God's sovereignty) (9:6-18)
b. Israel's lack of faith (human responsibility) (9:30—10:13)
But—a remnant of Israel will be saved (9:27)
God's plan eventually is the salvation of ethnic Jews (11:1-6, 25) - How then shall we live as a body of Jews and Gentiles? (12:1-15:7)
- The Gentile mission continues, bringing Gentiles in (15:8-22)
- Doxology: To the only wise God be glory forevermore! (16:27)
Applications
Worship: God rescues unlikely people!
Election vs. faith: God is sovereign, but we are still responsible!
Unity in the Body: We diverse people are to love one another!
Awe: God's plan is infinitely brilliant!
Doxology: To the only wise God be glory forevermore!
