Paul in Corinth
Series Acts
73
Corinth was a 'world city'. prosperous and noted for its pride and immorality. People thought they had a right to live whatever way they pleased, and did not listen to anyone unless they could make a big impression. It was like our celebrity culture - an unlikely place for the gospel to prosper. Paul changed the direction of his work when the Jews rejected his message - he abandoned them and went to the Gentiles. It may have seemed like defeat, but it was followed by many conversions and a visit from Christ who promised his presence, protection, and prosperity. The result was a church that shared the moral problems of its surroundings, but belonged to Christ nevertheless and was beloved by Paul.
