Faith's Virtuous Submission

82

With the harvest over, Ruth's regular routine changed. It was at this point that Naomi decided to put into action the plan on which she had been thinking since the day that Ruth had begun working in the field of Boaz. Naomi knew well the requirement of the Scripture that Boaz should undertake to rescue his kinsman's widow from her position of destitution. That which Naomi instructed Ruth to do was never close to the line of impropriety. Ruth had been changed from the woman who had learned her attitudes in the debauched culture of Moab. She had turned her back on that which was corrupt. It is safe to say that nothing that Naomi told Ruth to do and nothing that Ruth did was in any way suggestive or improper. The key to the passage is Ruth's complete submission to the direction of Naomi. She would pay attention to every detail and would trust to the same providence that had guided her to the field of Boaz at the beginning.
