David Hume, an 18th-century British philosopher who rejected Christianity, once met a friend rushing along a London street and asked where he was going in such a hurry. The friend said he was off to hear George Whitfield preach. "But surely you don't believe what Whitfield preaches do you?" Hume asked. "No, I don't," replied the friend, "but he sure does."
