Why Have You Done This?

After great victories, Solomon has some leisure time. Beware of downtime, especially after spiritual victories, for that's when temptations are stronger.

The Lord appeared to Solomon here for a second time. When God makes His appearance, He condescends. He comes down in grace to Solomon to stir up his heart. Oh how we need a fresh moving of the Lord in our hearts and church.

God makes some conditional promises here. He promises Solomon that if he lives a life devoted to him with sincerity of heart and an upright heart, He will be with him. Plurally, God warns that if they don't follow His ways, judgment and punishment will come. People will see and ask why.

Warnings of judgment are not harsh--they are kind. The judgment is a witness to the glory of God. The goodness of God is also a witness to His glory.

God's blessings are promised first, reminding us that He truly desires the best for us.

God's ways are so manifold and all His ways bring glory to His Name. May we live an obedient life to the honor and glory of the One who saved us.
