What do we do now?

Outline:

We should not take on the standards of conduct that the culture around us holds. We should bring the standards from “home”, where our citizenship is, in heaven.

There are four things we must do in order to be submissive citizens of heaven.

I. Identity – live like what we are – vs. 11-12

A. Sojourners and Pilgrims – Psa. 39:12; Eph. 2:19; Phil. 3:20 (we don’t belong here)
B. Abstain from Worldly Lusts – 1 John 2:15
C. Honorable Conduct – Gal 5:19-24; James 4:1-3
D. Glorify God

1. Evil Doers Accuse
2. Good Works Vindicate on the Day of Judgment – Matt 5:16

II. Institutions – submit to authority – vs. 13-14

A. To Every Ordinance (position of authority) – Jer. 29:4-14; Matt. 22:21; Rom. 13:1-7; 1 Tim. 2:1; Heb. 10:32-34
B. For the Lord’s Sake – because Jesus is Lord – Mark 10:42-45; Eph. 5:21; Acts 4:18-20; 5:28-20; Titus 1:6; 3:1-2

III. Ignorance – do good to silence the foolish – vs. 15-16

A. God’s Will
B. Silence Ignorant Fools
C. Free, yet Slaves – not licentiousness – 1 Cor. 7:22; 8:9-13; 2 Thess. 3:7-9

IV. Impossible!? – honor all people – vs. 17 – Phil. 2:3; Prov. 24:21

A. Honor All People
B. Love the Brotherhood
C. Fear God
D. Honor Caesar – yes, honor Caesar!
