The Coming of the Holy Spirit

The sermon text for this week is Acts 2:1-13. Jesus promised the disciples that they would receive power in Acts 1:8, and this passage brings us to the first manifestation of the coming of that power upon them. Our text will cover the beginning part of one of the most important days in all of history. The Holy Spirit falls on the disciples in such a clear and miraculous was as to cause a a crowd to marvel at what they hear, though some also mock. In this passage we see that the Lordship of Jesus includes a reversal of the scattering at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9), and sets the stage for one of the most remarkable sermons of all time. As we meditate on the incredible event recorded in Acts, we should reflect on the fact that it is this same Spirit that lives in those of us who are saved.
