Old Testament Israel had two great institutions, the Throne and the Altar. The priesthood predated the crown, and existed when the crown had ceased. 1 Chronicles 24 points us to the necessity of priesthood, the order of priesthood, and the continuity of priesthood. All this is fulfilled in Christ
