Man's Inability and God's Ability
Series Encounters
Jesus explained to His disciples the nature of the Holy Spirit's future work and their inability to bear the coming suffering of Christ's cross and the long-term conflict between the Jews and the Gentiles. The Gospel is not a universal invitation. It is not a call of salvation to all without exception but to all without exclusion of any, based on external considerations, like race, gender, education, or income. Before Creation, God purposed whom He would save by grace out of the world of both the Jews and Gentiles. He sovereignly and effectually calls His elect to know and enter into the truth of the Gospel. The Father accepted the Son's perfect payment for the sins of His chosen people. God accepted Christ's perfect righteousness and reckoned it to their account, reconciling the elect to Himself.
