According to the council of Trent, if you do not accept the Apocrypha as sacred and canonical, you are accursed. Should we accept the Apocrypha?
The reasons that the Catholic Church claim we should accept the Apocrypha are:
1. It's included in the Septuagint. (So?)
2. The Church Fathers, Irenaeus, Tertullian and Clement of Alexandria accepted it as scripture.
3. The Catholic theologian Augustine accepted The Apocrypha as scripture.
4. Some catacombs have been discovered with drawings on the walls that depict scenes from the Apocrypha
5. The Councils of Rome, Hippo and Carthage believed the Apocrypha belonged in the Cannon.
6. The Apocrypha was found in the Qumran library.
The Reasons we should not accept the Apocrypha as inspired scripture:
1. Not one of the Books in the Apocrypha claims to be inspired from God. Most of the canonical books make this claim in one way or another.
2. Not one of the Apocryphal books has prophecies we can check and verify. Nearly every book of the Bible contains prophecies that have come to pass, thus showing Gods hand in their authorship.
3. The New Testament does not quote any books of the Apocrypha. The New Testament does quote nearly every book of the Old Testament.
4. The Apocrypha contains historical errors, contradictions and numerical errors.
5. The Apocrypha contains unbiblical doctrines. These doctrines include:
a. The doctrine of the Mass (transubstantiation).
b. The world was created out of pre-existing matter.
c. You can atone for your sins through works.
d. Prayer to saints.
e. Worship of Angels.
f. The doctrine of Purgatory
6. The Apocrypha fails the test of Canonicity.
