- ADOPTION - Under appreciated doctrine of literally becoming children of God.
a) Given rights and privileges of any son of God
b) To place under sonship
c) 5 occurrences in New Testament:
1) Romans 8:15 - We can say "Abba Father"
2) Romans 8:23 - Associated with glorification
3) Romans 9:4 - promises and blessings given to non-naturals
4) Galatians 4:5 - an heir , co-heir with Christ
5) Ephesians 1:5 - Planned in eternity
d) Distinguished from Justification.
1) Justification is declaration of standing before God. Innocent before Judge
2) Adoption is relationship to God. Child of Judge
e) Overflow if God's grace - justification enough. Adoption not necessary.
IMPLICATIONS:
- Christiansare brothers and sisters
- Mark of salvation - 1 John - Christians love the brethren
- Christ is the Christians brother
- Christian has same love from God that He gives Christ
CONCLUSION:
Justification is essence of gospel, changing our standing before God.
Adoption transfers us from kingdom of darkness to kingdom of light.
