The Gospel of the "Phew!"

To listen to most conservative evangelicals today one would conclude that although born of the Spirit, indwelt by the Spirit, sealed and empowered by the Spirit, the Christian remains a selfish, self-centered, idolater, but for whom the cross of Jesus paid the price, so all is well--"Phew!" This is a classic example of preaching a half-gospel, which presents another Jesus, another Spirit. It is time to call this for what it is: heresy. For the gospel of grace is a promise of Spirit-empowered transformation into the image of Christ, and nothing less. There will be no one in heaven that does not perfectly look like Jesus.
