Clarifying the Law and the Gospel

126

The question had been raised, by the conduct of Peter, that if by doing what Christ required - believing in Him alone as the means of salvation - had the Jewish believers become sinful by not keeping the Law? Clarification was necessary for the purity of the gospel and the unity of the new church composed of Jews and Gentiles ethnically. This clarification as Paul was making to the readers of this letter is that Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection brought an end to the Law as He fulfilled it by His perfect life of righteousness and perfect sacrifice of Himself. Jews and Gentiles were and are being saved the same way, through faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone. So, as the Gentile who is saved does not become obligated to keep the Law and Jews who are saved are no longer obligated to keep the Law but both groups now live under the laws taught by Christ as articulated by the apostles in the New Testament for all believers.
