Care For Another's Conscience

116 ( 90 | 26 )

Believers often differ over matters of conscience where there is no clear command. Those whose conscience gives them a greater freedom should not exercise their rights if by their actions a brother is led to do something that he considers wrong and by doing so injures his conscience that he stumbles in his faith. This is not an encouragement for the weak in conscience to impose their more rigorous scruples on the strong in conscience and thus limit their genuine freedom in the gospel. Nevertheless, a willingness to relinquish a right in regards to Christian freedom for the sake of one whose conscience may be defiled not by my action but by copying my action is the test of real Christian love.
