Thesis: Obedience is a fruit of the Spirit and commanded, even or children, as a means of pointing them to Christ. God takes obedience VERY seriously and fully expects parents to instill it and children to carry it out.
Obedience is :
Commanded
- God said so!
- Means to actively listen and attend to
- Mostly for believing child - hard to obey this command if not saved
Part of Relating To/With God
- No obedience = not spirit controlled
- Motivation = Pleasing to the Lord
- Love for God (John 14)
Right
- Perfect, holy, righteous God has decreed obedience
Honoring
- moral implications
- Christlike; he obeyed/submitted to heavenly Father
A Blessing
- First commandment with a promise
- long or good life
- tutor that leads to gospel understanding
