What the Lord Jesus Taught About Marriage

The Lord Jesus Christ taught us what to believe about marriage, and as he did, he stood firmly on the authority of the Old Testament: that marriage is a divine institution between a male and a female.

Whatever society around us or the civil state should believe, the church has the obligation to follow the Lord Jesus if it claims to belong to him. When a church openly and persistently rejects what the Lord Jesus taught, it ceases to be a Christian church.

But this obligation has to do with the church's own practice and the standards that are set for her own members. Whenever the church, as the church, has attempted to force its views on the pagans around them, she has tended to trade the gown of the Bride of Christ (Revelation 21) for the attire of the Whore of Babylon (Revelation 17).

The moral standards of society change as a fruit of revival and never by the church attempting to force her ways on outsiders.
