Christ Above All

John the Baptist, hearing that his disciples were jealous of Christ's ministry, replied with three stunning details. First, no one can receive anything unless it be given him from above (3:27). Second, John was only the friend of the Bridegroom, preparing His way (3:29). His task was joyfully complete. Third, Jesus was from above and, in coming down, revealed truths that no one can receive unless God opens their understanding to the truth (3:32). John closes the testimony of the Baptist by declaring that "He who is believing (present active) the Son has (already possesses, not 'will get') eternal life; the one who does not obey the Son, shall not see life, but God wrath remains on him" (3:36).
