Jew? or Gentile? Through the Gospel, Christians have been reconciled to God through Christ, so that all Christians, both Jew and Gentile, should also be reconciled to one another. There should be unity, with no harmful division into opposing groups. Paul the Apostle, in these verses from Ephesians, urges the the people to remember what they were missing apart from Christ, how they were separated from God and without hope. He points out first the harmful mindset of division that hinders unity; then the hopeless condition that traps anyone who does not know Christ; and finally the powerful salvation of God that overcomes all obstacles to bring together one people, with no division.
