Christ is the Builder of a Greater Temple

Christ fulfills the promises made to David regarding his seed and his house far better than Solomon ever could.

God promised David that of his sons would come one who would build Him an house, a glorious temple.

David prepared much material for Solomon's use in building the temple. Solomon dedicated a glorious temple with over 100,000 sacrifices.

But Solomon's temple was destroyed by God's judgment against his rebellious people. Was the promise of God made to David void?

No! A promise of a better temple is found in Haggai 2: the glory of the latter house shall be greater than the former!

That "latter house" is none other than the temple of Christ and His Church. Unlike Solomon's temple, Christ's church will never be destroyed - the gates of Hell will not prevail against it!

Christ's temple is built upon a better foundation - the truth concerning Himself, the Prince of Glory! Christ builds His people into the temple as "lively stones," and makes them to serve as spiritual priests offering spiritual sacrifices - praise, thanksgiving, and acts of charity in the name of the Savior.

Those who think that the church is some man-made institution, or denomination, or great cathedral, miss the whole point: Christ's Body the Church is the great temple, not made with hands. Let not the glory of men's devices distract from the Glory of the Living Stone and the Lively Stones, which are the Saints.

Like Solomon, Christ got his "building stones" from His Father. The Saints are drawn by the Father and delivered to Christ, who saves us and builds us into a glorious building.

We are being conformed to the chief corner-stone - we'll be like Him one day!
