7 The Burden of a Pastor for His Flock

65

Colossians is a Christ-saturated book. There are no commandments in these verses. But what is the burden? It is a Pastor's burden. No other NT character illustrates the life of Christ more completely than the Apostle Paul. The first thing we read is how great is Paul's conflict, struggle for these church members. How does Paul, the Pastor, describe his office? Like a nursing mother taking care of her children and like a father with his children. Peter with Paul stress the Pastoral role for his flock. "Shepherd the flock of God which He has purchased with His own blood. Paul has suffered for the churches. "The daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches." But we have the assurance that it was worth it? Why? Because the love of Christ was being expressed. Paul loved the Colossians, whom he had never met, with the love of Christ. There is a mystery playing itself out. It is Christ still at work. Christ in you the hope of glory. Christ - in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
