Your Will Be Done

When you imagine heaven as it is described in God's Word, and when you look at earth and all it has to offer -- can you truly say you prefer heaven’s priorities, possessions, and surroundings to earth’s? Do you long for heaven on a daily basis, or do you cling to earth with all your decisions, thoughts, dreams, and desires?

The opening requests of the Lord's Prayer are meant to focus our faith and affections on God's glory and therefore on God's priorities. Our hearts longing is to be, "Father, may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

Our prayers that are not for God’s name to be honored above all else, and that are not consciously submitting our will to His, are immature prayers. Because this is how Jesus says we should pray! What Jesus says is of first importance, must be of first importance to us as well.
