A Sinner's Faith

89 ( 75 | 14 )

Rahab's faith is spoken of in the New Testament (Heb 11:31, James 2:24-25). In this message, we look at the faith of Rahab the harlot as seen in this Old Testament passage. This is what we see in Joshua concerning Rahab's faith:

  1. The expression of her faith (2:11)
She made a statement of faith: "for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath."

  2. The entrance of her faith (2:11)
Faith came by hearing the word of God: "And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt,"

  3. The entreaty of her faith (2:12-13)
She asks for mercy: "Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:"

  4. The evidence of her faith

4a. She confesses her confidence
"for the Lord your God, he is God" (2:11)

4b. She saves the spies
A Gentile pagan is seen being strong and courageous. While there are questions about her not telling the truth, Heb 11 and James 2 make it clear this is a woman who stood on the Lord's side

4c. She obeys the orders
It seemed pointless to let down the cord, but she obeyed. It was the means to save her and her family. Trust in the promise of God and obey the word of God to believe and you will find safety

4d. She lives with the Lord's people (Joshua 6:25)
This Gentile pagan woman was in the genealogy of the Savior

Faith alone in Christ alone and to God be glory alone
