Holiness - The Danger of Partnering w/ Darkness

It is dangerous to walk with darkness. The first danger is that it leads to compromise. Bad company corrupts good morals. We must not fall into the danger of thinking that we can associate with the unsaved and win them over. Instead, we should avoid partnership with the world, but not our presence in it.

The second danger is that walking with those in darkness may lead to God's judgement. If all we do is walk with darkness, this may mean we are also darkness. Let us not trifle with God's judgement. If we enjoy hanging out with unbelievers more than fellow Christians, we should be very careful.

We must have a balance, neither being as the world to win the world nor separating ourselves from it. The balance is that we should gather together with Christians so we can reach the world. Be for the church for the world. Gather together for spreading the gospel. The more we partner with unbelievers the less we win them, but the more we partner with believers the more we win unbelievers. We should regularly gather together with other Christians to build each other up.

In addition, we have a duty as those who walk in the light. We were darkness, spiritually ignorant and resistant, but we are now children of light, and therefore, are to look like our Father. This we will know by the fruit of the Spirit: goodness (doing good), righteousness (right living, obedience), and truth (speaking it in love). We must have spiritual discernment, testing all things and keeping only that which is pleasing to the Lord. How will we know what is pleasing to God? Abide in Christ. Have an intimate relationship with Him. Seek Him.
