Christ, the Wisdom of God

52

Today Corinth is a small town that hardly ever makes the international news. But in New Testament times it was a thriving, cosmopolitan city that retained its Greek culture even after it became a Roman colony, and later, a Roman province. The Corinthians placed a great premium on human wisdom. That is why the Apostle Paul in the opening verses of his first epistle to the Corinthians states that “the Greeks seek after wisdom” (1:22). They prided themselves in being on the “cutting edge” of innovative thinking in every area.

The wisdom of God, however, is diametrically opposed to man's wisdom. Paul reminds these Corinthian believers still being influenced by their pagan, humanistic culture that when they received Christ, they received true wisdom. In fact, Christ Himself is “God's everything,” the very essence of all we need!

True wisdom is not related to one's I.Q., experience, or education. Knowing and obeying Jesus will make one truly wise. When we receive Christ, we receive Wisdom personified, Wisdom incarnate! Are you willing to be reckoned a “fool for Christ's sake”?
