The Hardening and Humbling Effect of the Gospel

77

The final sermon on Acts. The hardening and humbling effects of the gospel; this has always been the reality. The Lord speaks to Isaiah and tells him that the result of faithful preaching will be the rebellion of most of his generation, but don't adjust the message. Jesus speaks in parables that are cryptic to the unbeliever who has no ear to hear. Paul knows that the preaching of the gospel is just as likely to confirm a person in their unbelief and doom as it is to save them.
So why does Paul keep on preaching?
Why does Jesus keep telling parables?
Why does Isaiah prophesy what the people refuse to heed?
Why do we preach a gospel that is out of step and out of tune with 21st Century culture and practice?
Because it is the only way to salvation! Our intent is salvation for many, the effect is also to harden many hearers.
