63 A Good King and a Bad People

A GOOD KING AND A BAD PEOPLE
TEXT: 2 Chr. 26:21 – 27:9; 2 Ki. 15:32-38;

SUMMARY: A people that persists in sin, particularly when it is contrary to the reproof and example of good leaders, will be all the more guilty and without excuse on the day of judgment.

I. THE BLESSING OF A GOOD RULER.
A. He Imitated the Good in His Predecessors, but not the Bad.
B. He Took Preventative Measures to Strengthen the Kingdom.
C. Furthermore, he Actively Fought the Enemies of the Kingdom.

II. THE CURSE OF A SINFUL PEOPLE.
A. Unlike their king who imitated the good in his predecessors but not the bad, the people imitated the evil in their forefathers, but not the good.
B. Unlike their king, who made the defense of God’s holy nation a top priority, the people failed to prepare their ways to seek the Lord, and consequently left themselves without spiritual defenses.
C. Finally, whereas the king actively fought the enemies of the kingdom, the people, by their continuing idolatry, surrendered to the spiritual enemies of the kingdom.
