Keeping Wisdom in View

172 ( 84 | 88 )

There are two kinds of Proverbs, those which are prescriptive and those that are descriptive. It is not what you eat, it's what eats you. Are you contributing to strife or to peace? We cannot control to whom we are born but we can decide whether we will go after wisdom or folly. Our birth does not determine what kind of people we will turn out to be. God puts us situations that bring up things that need to come out in order that we might be free from it. If we see people who are worse off than us, God says we will not go unpunished. Bribes work, but all of us have to stand before God so keep wisdom in view. Temporarily, bribes may make since, but long term they will lead to destruction. For the wise, just a word of a rebuke will be enough. It is better to drop a matter before a dispute breaks out. Condemning the innocent and acquitting the evil, the Lord detests them both. Learn to see the humor in things, it is good medicine. If you're not sure what to say, do not say anything. Do not fly off the handle, instead be even tempered. As we do, we will reflect our Lord who has reason to destroy us everyday and chooses not to.
