Q5. Are there more Gods than one?
A5. There is but one only, the living and true God.
Although v10 of Jeremiah 10 is a Scripture proof to answer our catechism question, the whole portion of Scripture, Jeremiah 10:1-16, expresses the distinct difference between the one true, and living God, Jehovah, and the gods of idolatry and covetousness.
The gods of the heathen are:
- Many gods - v5, v11
- Made gods - vv3-5, v9, v14
- Dead gods - v5 (in contrast to vv10-13) Our God is alive, He speaks, creates, & is powerful
- Deceitful gods - vv14-15
