What does Oprah believe about Jesus and Christianity? Well on a recent TV program launching her new-age religion, Oprah explained to a caller why she had left orthodox Christianity. She said she had been enjoying a sermon by a popular and charismatic baptist pastor when one of the things he said, although it was biblical, offended her. That was the point at which she turned away from the church and began a religion more suited to her own desires and 'spiritual feelings.'

Oprah's story is uncannily like that of the Galileans who, though they were initially attracted to Christ, were offended by his sayings and eventually 'went back and walked with him no more' preferring instead a form of religion more suited to their desires.

But why do people like Oprah and these Galilean disciples turn back from following Jesus, and why did the Apostles stay? What is the real cause at the heart of apostasy?
