The Consequences of Poor Spiritual Leadership - Part II

126

In honor of Fathers' Day, Pastor Scott preached a special message about spiritual leadership. Lot moved into Sodom (a picture of the world), and his family suffered terribly as a result. The world draws us in the way Sodom drew in Lot. Lot suffered in Sodom, the way people in the world suffer when the world is judged. Abraham delivered Lot physically from Sodom and its king (Bera; a picture of the devil), and it's a picture of the way Christians spiritually deliver people captive to the world and the devil. Once Lot was delivered from Sodom, he returned, picturing the way we're tempted to return to the world after being delivered from it. Something similar happened with Israel wanting to return to Egypt (another picture of the world.

Family Worship Guide:
Memory Verses: 2 Peter 2:20

Day 1: Read Genesis 13:1-12 and discuss: How is Sodom a picture of the world? Why did Abraham and Lot part ways? What was commendable Abraham's example? Lot found himself in Sodom, but it didn't happen overnight. Describe the steps he took. What steps do we take to find ourselves in the world?

Day 2: Read Genesis 14:1-12, Galatians 6:2 and discuss: Even though Lot was "righteous" how did he suffer when Sodom suffered? Abraham rescued Lot. How is this a picture of us rescuing believers taken captive to sin and the devil?

Day 3: Read Genesis 19:1-26, 2 Peter 2:20-22 and discuss: Why didn't Lot's son-in-laws believe him when he tried to save them? Who suffered the most for Lot's sins: him or his family? What application(s) does this have for fathers?
