A Prayer for Unity

Unity is compared to oil and dew in this psalm. The comparison is used to foster an eternal quality of life. The Bible speaks about this quality of life a lot. It touches both the present and the future. It is both a way of life and a destination. As a psalm of David, the unity he enjoyed would last through his life and reign and the life and reign of his son, Solomon. However, the kingdom would erupt into civil war during the reign of his grandson, Rehoboam. Still, David found his present unity to be good and pleasant, just as oil and dew are good and pleasant in the similes he offers in this psalm. We find a parallel in this subject matter of unity in our own lives together as believers in the church.
