Led by the Spirit

What does it mean to be led by the Spirit? There is so much confusion about this. Unfortunately, people tend to fall into one of two extremes. Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of being led by the Spirit outside the illumination of the Word of God. Unfortunately, the result is that those who talk about being led by the Spirit tend to have really bad theology. These are the people who have fallen on the other extreme, and tend to lack good judgment and accept anything under the guise of the Spirit. But is there a middle way? That's what the Bible teaches. You should seek the guidance of the Spirit, but do so in the context of a robust theology. You must also make use of your knowledge of God's word, trust in the sovereignty of God, and modesty in your claims about the Spirit, recognizing that even the apostles did not know everything.
