A Better Covenant

The fulfilment of all other covenant arrangements which God had set in place occurs in and through the new covenant which Christ has come to establish. All the promises attending all the preceding covenant formulations are granted in him. Not least among them is the promise of a perpetual kingship and perpetual priestly service, and this based on the forgiveness of sins. Hebrews 8 quotes extensively from Jeremiah 31, but other passages in the OT also point to the new covenant that God had planned to reveal before (e.g. Jer. 33; Ezek, 34 and 37)
