The Temptations of Jesus (Part 1)
Matthew 4:1-11

I.Something About Jesus

A. Jesus was Fully a Man
B. Jesus was Fully Tempted as a Man (4:2)
C. Jesus Fully Resisted Temptation as a Man (4:3-4)
…those who passed by derided Him... “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God come down from the cross.” ... "He trusts in God; let God deliver Him now, if He desires Him. For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ”.... And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” (Matt. 27:39-46)

II. Something About Us

A. Temptation is Satanic
B. You are the Special Target of Satan
“…behold, Satan demanded to have you…” (Lk. 22:31-32)
…the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. (Rev. 12:17)

Conclusion

“Behold, I and the children God has given Me” Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.... He helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore He had to be made like His brothers in every respect.... to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because He Himself has suffered when tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. (Heb. 2:13-18)
