The King's Authoritative Teaching

Matthew gives us an overview of Jesus' ministry, focusing on His teaching.  He walks from town to town, stopping to teach and preach in all of the synagogues - an opportunity no doubt afforded Him in part by His healing ministry.  Josephus records that there were over 200 villages and towns in Galilee, and for Jesus to visit them all, or even near all, would have been a monumental and exhausting task.  But, as He starts to lay the foundation for the New Israel, He begins by correcting all of the misunderstandings about the Scriptures that the people had been taught, and giving them its true teaching.  Ministry is ultimately about salvation, and that ordinarily comes through the regular and patient teaching of God's Truth.
