The Inheritance that Comes to Those that Surrender

Only after having been brought low in the first two beatitudes do we begin to see a change in direction taking place in this third beatitude. The first two beatitudes bring us low as we acknowledge our impoverished spiritual condition and we mourn over our sins. But the work of grace does something else also. It makes us willing now at last to submit to God on the terms that God sets forth in the gospel. We become meek, in other words. In this study we consider examples of meekness, note the right practices of meekness and then consider how the Lord lifts up those that are meek to the point that we can say those that surrender are exalted into the inheritance of the kingdom of heaven.
