THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT: HONORING GOD'S AUTHORITY

A. God's Holy Law emphasizes the importance of ‘godly family life'

B. Central to ‘happiness of life” is obedience to God's authority (Eph. 6:1-3)

I. The Recognizing of God's Kingly Representatives

A. Our ultimate King is the ‘exalted Lord Jesus Christ' Deut 10:12-14; Phil. 2:9-11
B. God has delegated His supreme authority among His creatures in various ‘hands'

II. Honoring of God's Kingly Representatives

A. God's will is that we honor or reverence them who are His representatives
B. How do we “honor or reverence” those in authority?
C. How is the ‘wife to honor or reverence her husband?” (Eph. 5:22, 33b)
D. How are ‘children to honor their parents?” (Eph. 6:1-3)

III. Forbearing with God's Kingly Representatives

A. No ‘sinful' representative is going to be ‘sinless'

1. Sinful tendencies or characteristics or character weaknesses may be found

2. Yet God's will is that we forbear patiently with their weaknesses and infirmities
